About Us

Gower Surf Academy is a South Welsh Surf Company, all we do is surf!

Gower Surf Academy will not only help you learn one of the coolest sports there is, but it will also increase your awareness of water safety. No matter what your skill is we can ensure you leave the water with a smile on your face and a very large appetite! Our number one goal is to have fun in a safe environment which a lot of people may never have had the confidence to enter before. Some first sessions lead to life changing experiences and those people may forever have the surfing bug, which inexorably leads to a much healthier life style and better mind set.

Our moto is Surf Safe, Surf Smart, Surf Stoked!

Gower Surf Academy is on the Approved Outdor activity providers list for the City and County of Swansea and many other Local Authorities. We have the necessary Public Liability insurance required by councils and all our surf coaches are qualified lifeguards, ISA surf coaches along with having CRB enhanced checks.

About Me

I learned to surf at the age of eight with the surf school Gower Surfing Development. As a child with ADHD, surfing became the first thing I was able to apply my full focus on and it steered me from a destructive path into a more creative and constructive pathway. I will always remember my first surf lesson; the excitement and exhilaration of finally getting in the water and trying to stand up on a board in ever-moving water.  I could not fathom how the waves stood up so tall and steep. I was hooked from day one and slowly year after year I progressed to the point where I was assisting with the surf lessons and helping others learn to surf. This was when I was around 14 years old and I was still in Secondary School. Peer pressure, among other things, almost lead me down a dangerous path again, but I suddenly realised that I had this responsibility at the surf school.  I could see the enjoyment and happiness of those learning to surf and I knew I was the catalyst.

I found it rewarding to teach others to surf as I had only ever been taught myself, and the knowledge was freshly ingrained in my mind.  As I got older, I knew I wanted become a  surf coach and once I did, I began working for Gower Surfing (previously Gower Surfing Development). Now not only was I helping people learn this amazing sport but I was also getting paid for it; something I never had imagined before.

I went to university and got a degree in Business Management and Sustainability. When I returned to Swansea, I started working at Amazon as an associate. I worked there for eighteen months before leaving, as an active outdoorsy person, I felt a change of environment was needed. Shortly after this period I discovered the owner of Gower Surfing wanted to retire from running the surf school he had been running for more than 20 years, to pursue other business ventures. This opened the door for me to purchase and reinvent this surf school as Gower Surf Academy (GSA).
